NUMBER of freshwater ponds which remain in Britain, falling from more than one million at the start of the 20th century. There are 80 endangered or protected species reliant on the ponds for their survival, according to the Environment Agency.

PERCENTAGE of holiday home owners who feel under pressure to let people use their property. A third osaid the request came from friends, 20% from their parents and 14% from their children, the survey by Post Office Travel Insurance found.
